Art careers were casualties in the recent recession, but they’re among the first fields to recover, as well.
As people pause, they aren’t happy when they look at the one-size-fits-none objects they’ve brought into their homes.
Beauty can be simple and inexpensive.
They want something different. They want to surround themselves with beauty, and the energy that’s part of original artwork.
That can include paintings and sculpture, but also interior design, decor, music, and other forms of artistic expression.
People who choose art careers are in the right place at the right time. Even better, many artists are open-minded about how they’re paid. Maybe it’s cash, but maybe you’d be happy with fresh, organic vegetables from your client’s garden. Perhaps your customer can tune up your car in return for a small work of art.
For many artists, the cost of materials is a small part of the value of the finished artwork. People who choose art careers are often highly original people who can see art in almost anything. (In fact, that’s a category of art: “found art,” using materials you simply find.)
The economic downturn that started in 2008 left many people feeling sad, bitter, and unhappy with what they’d filled their lives with, during more affluent years.
Now, they want something better. They’ve realized that owning a lot of stuff doesn’t feel nearly as good as owning beautiful things.
Whether you’re looking at commercial art careers, drawing careers, or just a job that is creative… arts careers are still viable.
