Explore Art Schools and a Career in Arts

Meanwhile, back in the studio…

Starting early in 2008, I wasn’t sure that I had anything meaningful to say at this website.

From my viewpoint, the economic shift that became clear early in 2008… I knew this would be a game changer.

But the big question was: Where would this lead us?

I didn’t have enough of a handle on this economic roller coaster, to feel competent when I spoke about art careers. (If I can’t say something helpful… what’s the point? I respect your time and intelligence more than that.)

Sure, I knew that the arts — and entertainment of all kinds — seem to flourish and thrive during economic downturns.  The question was: Would that rule apply in this new, digital environment?

Well, though many people are making difficult choices now, late in 2011 I’m seeing something emerge:  People are choosing to surround themselves with beauty, as much as they can.

They’ve had enough austerity.  They’ve gotten past the idea that everything will return to normal, if they just wait long enough.

They’re looking for ways to make their personal lives more serene, more beautiful, more aesthetic, and more fulfilling, no matter what’s in the news headlines.

Art is going to be okay. We may have to adjust our marketing techniques and our prices (or how eagerly we’ll accept barter).  We may have to focus on beauty more than angry commentary, but that could be a good thing… for you and your art career.

So, this website is going to be sharing a lot more resources and ideas.

I’m optimistic.

I’m looking at the changes in our lives as artists, online and in our daily lives.  And, I’ll do my best to share insights to help you succeed in the new economy.
